Land bank sells 48 vacant side lots; more lots available

cclbaNews, 2016

The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority has sold 48 side lots as a part of its spring sale to unload vacant neighborhood land and return the properties to their respective tax rolls.

The land bank held a kickoff event for the sale Saturday at Battle Creek’s Kool Family Community Center, where it sold 36 total side lots. Of those, 34 lots were in Battle Creek and two were in Albion. Additional breakdowns from lots sold this week were not immediately available.

Calhoun County Treasurer Christine Schauer said selling the lots gets them back to productive use on local tax rolls, used to fund schools and critical services such as roads and public safety.

Eligible buyers must be residents living next to qualified land bank-owned lots. They will be sold directly from the land bank to interested residents for $110.

More information is available by contacting the land bank at 781-0777 or by email at landbank@calhouncountymi.gov. A complete list of property owned by the land bank is available on its website at calhounlandbank.org/properties.
